About George, the photographer:
Photography has become my hobby since my 20s though I began to learn about photography way earlier — since I was just a kid. My dad used to be a professional photo journalist and his favourite camera at that time was Nikon F4 film camera. My dad used to have his own “dark room” set up at home and he may spend hours in the “dark room” to develop his films. After he got his work done, he usually gave me those empty film cans as my toys.
During the 2020-2023 Covid pandemic time, I began to seriously learn film photography. The first film camera I bought was a second-hand Nikon F4 — yes, also my dad’s favourite. The F4 is a very heavy and sophisticated film camera. It can cover all powerful functions you want. However, I have to confess F4 is definitely not a good one for travel photography. It’s way too heavy — more than 1 kg already just for the camera body.
Later I also bought the famous Nikon FM2 and it was also a second-hand one but in mint condition. I was also lucky to find and buy the Titan version of FM2, so the model is actually called FM2/T. You can learn more about my FM2/T here. I do carry my FM2/T often for travel. Also because FM2 is a 100% mechanically controlled manual focus SLR with manual exposure control, that means you don’t need battery at all to shoot. It’s a “all weathers” camera and that makes you feel very secure when you hit the road.
I also own several Leica cameras. The two I use most often nowadays are Leica M11 (digital) and Leica MP 0.72 (film). I also often keep Ricoh GRIII (digital) or Contax T3 (film) in my pocket. GRIII is dubbed by the media as the best “street photography camera”, while T3 is already a “celebrity camera”, thanks to many celebrity owners of T3 like Kendall Jenner and Jisoo of Blackpink.
You can follow me on Instagram for my latest photography work — in fact, most often shot on my iPhone.
